Why do people want to be lies to?

Today at work I had to lie. I was talking to a regular customer, who I know is a very serious christian, and another guest who I had talked to a little bit, but didn't know very well was leaving, and on his way out asked me if I had found a church to attend in this area, (I just transferred to a new state 3 weeks ago). I did tell him that no I hadn't and wasn't really interested in finding a church.

He began asking me why, and I stated I just didn't like churches due to all the hypocrisy I have seen. Turns out he is a minister at a church in the area. He asked me if I believed in god, and since I was at work, just went along with his questions and replied yes to him, and yes to being born again, etc etc.

He was kinda accepting about me not going to a church, and I got out of that conversation somewhat easily. But the other guest I had been talking to wanted to talk to me more about it, and convince me that I should be going to church, not because its a building, but because I needed to be with other Christians.

I hate having to lie to people, but sometimes its easier to deal with guests at work, if they don't know the truth.

Lies I have to tell at work that make me feel bad but make life easier.

  1. letting people think I am straight

  2. letting people think my ex was a woman

  3. letting people think I believe in a imaginary god

Life would be easier for me if people accepted people for who they are not what they want you to be.
